Rubber Stone coating is a flexible, cushioned surfacing system made from synthetic EPDM rubber granules bound together with a durable binder. Because it is EPDM, the color runs all the way through each granule — not just dyed on the surface — so the finish stays vibrant and consistent even as the surface wears over time. It creates a slip-resistant, shock-absorbing surface that is popular for pool decks, patios, playgrounds and walkways.
Resin Rock coating (sometimes called resin-bound stone or resin-bonded aggregate) is a surfacing system that combines natural stone aggregates — marble and quartz — with a clear UV-stable resin binder. The result is a smooth, permeable, rock-like finish that looks like natural stone but performs like a solid, low-maintenance pavement.
Resin Rock is natural stone only. It does not include EPDM rubber granules, which belong to Rubber Stone.
The main differences come down to composition, feel and use case:
- Rubber Stone uses virgin EPDM rubber aggregate, giving it a cushioned, softer-underfoot feel — ideal for pool surrounds, play areas, gyms and spaces where comfort and slip resistance are top priorities.
- Resin Rock uses natural marble and quartz stone aggregate in a resin binder, giving it a harder, more natural stone appearance — ideal where a premium hardscape look is desired. Natural stone is not slip resistant.
Both are installed in place, seamless, and far more flexible in design than poured concrete or pavers.
Engineered for resilience and comfort, EPDM rubber offers a refined balance of flexibility and durability — designed to perform across changing climates while maintaining a composed, consistent finish.
Through controlled manufacturing and formulation, uniformity in particle size, color and composition is maintained, ensuring reliable installation and predictable performance across every project.
Our EPDM rubber is virgin material — it is not recycled.
Marble and quartz stone aggregates. Selected from natural deposits, these aggregates bring both structure and quiet sophistication to the finished surface.
Each material is processed through controlled crushing, washing and grading — removing impurities and ensuring consistency in size and tone. This level of refinement contributes directly to both surface performance and visual balance.
Marble can be installed outdoors. Quartz is an indoor application.
Both systems can typically be installed as an overlay on existing stable concrete or asphalt, or poured fresh over a properly prepared and compacted sub-base. Our team evaluates your existing surface during a site visit to recommend the best approach.
Concrete and asphalt are the most common and most reliable substrates. Other surfaces, such as pavers or wood decking, are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, since stability, drainage and movement of the existing material all affect long-term performance. We will let you know during your site visit whether your surface is a good candidate or whether a different preparation approach is needed.
In practice they describe the same job: renewing a worn pool deck without tearing it out. Pool deck coating names the product, pool deck resurfacing names the process, and pool deck refinishing or renovation describes the result.
We evaluate your existing concrete, repair cracks and prepare the surface mechanically so the new surface can bond, then mix Rubber Stone on site and hand-trowel it over the top. There is no demolition, and the finished deck is cooler underfoot and slip resistant.
A cool deck coating is a pool deck surface designed to stay more comfortable underfoot in direct sun than bare concrete. Rubber Stone is designed with pool decks and barefoot use in mind, and its porous, textured surface performs better in direct sun than solid rubber matting or turf.
It also adds traction when the deck is wet and a softer, more forgiving surface than concrete.
Rubber paving means surfacing an area with a rubber-based material instead of asphalt, concrete or pavers. Rubber Stone is a seamless rubber surface mixed on site and hand-troweled in place, used on driveways, walkways, pool decks, patios and play areas.
It is installed over properly prepared concrete or, for new work, over a compacted sub-base, and we evaluate the surface at a site visit first.
Both Rubber Stone and Resin Rock coatings come in a wide range of aggregate colors and blends — from natural earth tones and stone grays to bold custom color combinations. Since Rubber Stone’s EPDM granules are solid-colored all the way through, blends stay true and consistent over the life of the surface. We can provide physical color samples so you can see how a finish will look in your outdoor lighting before committing.
Yes. We can custom-blend aggregate colors to complement your home’s exterior, existing hardscaping, or a specific design vision. Custom borders, banding, inlays and logo or pattern work are also available on most projects.
In most cases, yes. Both systems are excellent for resurfacing tired, cracked or discolored concrete, giving it a completely refreshed look without the cost and disruption of a full tear-out and replacement — provided the underlying slab is structurally sound.
Yes. We bring physical color and texture samples to your consultation so you can see and feel the material in person, in your own outdoor lighting, before making a decision.
With proper installation and routine maintenance, most installations last well over a decade. TreadStrong Solutions backs every installation with a 5-year workmanship and product warranty.
Yes. Both systems are engineered to flex slightly with temperature changes, which helps prevent the cracking that rigid concrete is prone to in freeze-thaw climates. Their permeable design also allows water to drain through rather than pool and freeze on the surface.
Rubber Stone is. Its EPDM surface offers excellent traction even when wet, which is why it is a popular choice around pools, splash pads and gyms.
Resin Rock is not. Natural stone products are not slip resistant, so where grip is the priority we will point you to Rubber Stone.
Rubber Stone is designed with pool decks and barefoot use in mind, and its porous, textured surface performs better in direct sun than solid rubber matting or turf. Lighter color blends will stay cooler underfoot than darker colors, so if heat is a concern for your space, we can help you choose a color blend suited to your climate and sun exposure.
Resin Rock is commonly used for driveways and can be engineered to support vehicle traffic when installed over a properly prepared base. Rubber Stone can also be installed for driveway use in the right application, and is a top choice for pedestrian and high-traffic areas like pool decks, gyms and sports courts.
Resin Rock uses UV-stable resins and aggregates designed to resist fading. Rubber Stone’s EPDM granules are especially resistant to visible fading and wear-through, since the color is consistent throughout the entire granule rather than just on the surface.
Yes. Unlike gravel or pavers, both coatings create a bonded, seamless surface that resists weed growth. The flexible resin and rubber matrix also resists the cracking common with rigid concrete as the ground shifts seasonally. Rubber Stone is also used specifically as a landscaping weed barrier in garden beds and border areas.
Both systems are permeable and resist standing water, which significantly reduces the conditions that allow mold, mildew and algae to take hold compared to solid, non-draining surfaces.
Routine rinsing further helps keep either surface clean, especially in shaded or consistently damp areas.
Most residential projects — patios, walkways, pool decks — take one to three days from preparation to finished cure, depending on size and weather. Larger driveways or commercial spaces may take longer. We will provide a project-specific timeline during your quote.
- Site evaluation and measurement — we assess your existing surface and drainage.
- Surface preparation — cleaning, repairing cracks and priming, or excavating and compacting a base for new pours.
- Mixing and application — aggregate and resin or rubber binder are mixed on site and hand-trowelled to the desired thickness.
- Curing — the surface cures and hardens.
- Final inspection and walkthrough — we review the finished surface with you.
Thickness is selected based on the application — for example, pedestrian patios and walkways typically use a different application depth than driveways or high-traffic commercial areas. Thicker applications generally offer more durability and cushioning. We will recommend the right thickness for your project’s specific use during your consultation.
We ask that the work area be cleared of furniture, planters, vehicles and other movable items. If pets or sprinkler systems are nearby, let us know so we can plan accordingly.
Light foot traffic is typically safe within 24 hours, with full cure — including vehicle traffic on driveway applications — taking a few days longer. We will give you exact timing based on the weather conditions during your installation.
Installation requires dry conditions and a minimum temperature threshold for proper curing. We monitor weather closely and will reschedule if conditions are not suitable, to ensure a quality, long-lasting result.
We take on projects of all sizes, from small walkways and landscape borders to large commercial installations. Contact us with your project details and we will let you know how we can help.
Yes. TreadStrong Solutions installs Rubber Stone and Resin Rock coatings for homeowners as well as commercial clients, including gyms, retail spaces, golf courses, equestrian facilities, and municipal or community projects.
Yes. Cracks are repaired and the surface is mechanically prepared before any new surface goes down, because the finish is only as good as the deck underneath it.
Structural movement of the slab, such as settling or heaving, is a different problem that a surface cannot fix. We assess it at the site visit, and it is also an exclusion under our written warranty.
Routine maintenance is simple: rinse with a garden hose or use a leaf blower to clear debris, and occasionally wash with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or pressure washing at close range or high PSI, which can wear down the surface finish prematurely.
We recommend a resealing or topcoat refresh periodically, depending on sun exposure and traffic, to maintain surface bonding and appearance. We offer resealing services — just reach out when it is time.
Both systems can typically be spot-repaired without needing to redo the entire surface. Because Rubber Stone’s EPDM color goes all the way through the granule, patch repairs blend in far more seamlessly than surface-dyed rubber products. Contact us and we can assess whether a patch repair, localized resurfacing or topcoat refresh is the right fix.
Both coatings are formulated to resist chlorine, common pool chemicals and most household chemicals. For driveways, we recommend wiping up oil and fuel spills promptly and using pet- and surface-safe de-icers rather than rock salt, which can degrade many exterior coatings over time.
Common applications include:
- Pool decks and surrounds
- Patios and outdoor living spaces

Yes. Its cushioned, impact-absorbing surface makes it a popular choice for playground safety surfacing, offering fall protection while remaining durable outdoors.
Yes. Both systems can be applied to sloped surfaces and stair treads. On Rubber Stone we can incorporate additional texture during installation to enhance slip resistance on inclines. Resin Rock is natural stone and is not slip resistant, so we will talk through the options for stairs and slopes with you.
Yes. Both surfaces are non-abrasive on paws, resist staining from pet waste when cleaned promptly, and Rubber Stone’s cushioned texture is especially comfortable for pets to walk and lie on.
Yes. Rubber Stone is a popular choice for pontoon and boat deck resurfacing thanks to its slip resistance when wet, comfort underfoot and heat resistance under sun exposure.
Yes. Rubber Stone’s cushioned, impact-absorbing surface is well suited for commercial and home gym flooring, as well as sports courts, offering both comfort and durability under repeated use.
Yes. Rubber Stone is used in equestrian barn floors for its cushioning, drainage and durability under heavy foot and hoof traffic.
Yes. Both surfaces cure to a firm, stable, seamless finish — unlike loose gravel or mulch — making them a comfortable option for wheelchairs, walkers and strollers, while Rubber Stone’s cushioned texture adds extra comfort underfoot.
Yes. Screened lanai decks and enclosed pool areas can be resurfaced too. Because Rubber Stone is mixed on site and hand-troweled, the space is evaluated at the site visit, including access and the condition of the existing concrete, before we recommend an approach.
Rubber Stone coatings are made from synthetic EPDM rubber, and the permeable design of both systems allows rainwater to filter through to the ground rather than contributing to runoff, which can support better stormwater management on your property.
